Holly introduced the unit on space by having students explore out‑of‑this‑world poetry through music using activities from the Everyone Can Create Music project guide.
To learn about space, each student selected a space-themed poem, researched the main topic of the poem, and captured their research in a Pages template.

Next, students took a creative spin at the idea in GarageBand. They learned chord structures, drum beats, and song composition to find new ways to demonstrate their thoughts, ideas, and learning with music. Then they recorded a tune that followed the rhythm of their poem.
Finally, they combined their poetry, music, and research in the Pages template to create an interactive report about their topic.
By using Everyone Can Create Music we unleashed student creativity and brought learning and engagement to a new level. Students discovered that they're not only poets and scientists, but musicians as well.
