Samantha had her students do activities from the Everyone Can Create Photo project guide to learn techniques that would enable them to take powerful photos that reflected their understanding of a character from a novel.
To help guide this project, Samantha created a template in Pages so students could brainstorm their ideas and photograph with intention. The template encouraged students to explore creativity with their cameras — experimenting with angles, lighting, focus, zoom, and color — as they deepened their understanding of a character in a story through photos.
Students started by taking ten photos of places or symbolic objects that represented a character.
Each photo was expected to use a different camera angle, focal length, and filter to capture the image.
For the final product, students put each photo in an image gallery and then made a voice recording directly in the document, explaining their artistic choices and how those choices supported the different aspects and story development of the character.
The accessibility features built into iPad, as well as the Record Audio feature in Pages, support learners of all levels in capturing their ideas.
