Leveraging skills learned from the Everyone Can Create Photo project guide and Numbers for iPad Apple Teacher tutorials, Claire created experiences that enabled her students to see forces in action and capture them using the Camera app on iPad.
Claire created eight hands-on experiments to show different forces in action. She placed information about each station in a Numbers template.
Students were challenged to take photos and videos of the experiments as they completed them. In this experiment, they recorded how the downward force of a hand changed the shape of modeling clay.
They used Slo-mo video to slow down a fast action so they could see how forces affected a balloon submerged in a bucket of water.
They used Burst mode to capture the forces in action, like a spring being stretched downward by a suspended mass.
They used video to record how forces could move objects without touching them, such as a magnet pushing a paperclip across a table. By documenting their experiences using the iPad camera, students were able to create a portfolio that they could reflect on for their final assessment.
iPad allows students to see things that are normally too quick for us to see. By using Slo-mo and Burst mode, students can stop an object in time and capture the effect of different forces. Drawing and audio tools help students to visualize and explain learning.
