Mele’s students wanted to share the Samoan language with their school community, so Mele supported them using creativity apps on iPad.
Mele used the Everyone Can Create Design Workbook to help guide students through the design process to create a prototype of a Samoan language app
in Keynote.
After planning out their app, each student in the group then used Tayasui Sketches to illustrate an object they wanted to feature in the app prototype.
Then each student imported their illustration into Keynote and recorded themselves speaking the name of the object in Samoan. The group of students then
shared their pronunciations with a Samoan language expert and refined their audio recordings.
Finally, students hyperlinked their objects to specific slides in order to create a working app prototype. Once completed, they used AirDrop to share
their app prototype in Keynote with other students around the school.
Supporting students’ creativity is so rewarding, especially when they can share an important cultural artifact.
