“Moving On Up” is a podcast activity designed to help with the transition from one class or school to another. Students plan and record a podcast directly from the iPad with other students who have already transferred to their next class or school, to find out how the process went and get advice on how best to manage the transition. This is a great resource to instill confidence prior to what can be an anxious moment in the school year, and also a great resource to share with students embarking on the same journey.

“The Prosody Podcast” is a fun and creative way for young learners to improve their reading skills. Using GarageBand and the built‑in microphone on iPad, students record their own poems, which helps them practice writing, reading, speaking, and listening. Adding loops gives meaning to words, using effects adds personality, and working with a partner just makes it more fun. This lesson is a great way to connect different subjects — for example, using sensory details and animal research to expand their vocabulary and understanding. It’s easily adaptable for other content areas as well, like math and social studies.

In this activity, students create a podcast with iPad to tell the story of a historical figure — with a catch! The host crafts the story of the individual without giving away who they are. The guest of the podcast listens to the clues and tries to guess who the individual is. This lesson helps learners make personal connections and gather a deeper understanding of their historical figure while building critical thinking, research, and storytelling skills. Students use GarageBand on iPad to transform the process of biographical research into an engaging and memorable experience.

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a science expert on a podcast? In this project, students step into the roles of reporters and scientists to bring the process of natural selection to life through creative podcast interviews. Using GarageBand on iPad, they research organisms, write scripts, and record engaging audio segments that explain how adaptive traits evolve. With custom jingles, sound effects, and podcast artwork, students produce polished episodes that demonstrate deep scientific understanding. It’s a dynamic and collaborative approach to blending science, storytelling, and technology — all while developing writing, speaking, and creative media skills.

In this creative project, students use GarageBand on iPad to make their own radio play. Drawing from written or published plays, students create characters and explore different types of recorded sound and music to design an engaging and dramatic radio play. This deep‑dive into GarageBand demonstrates how to develop a superbly produced play with iPad as a fully‑functional recording studio. Explore reverb, echo, and other sound settings to portray various genres and styles. It’s a fun and innovative way to study literature in its spoken form.

Put creating and sharing in the hands of learners with this self‑regulation podcasting project. Using GarageBand on iPad to record, students share their favorite breathing and centering techniques while practicing descriptive language and sequencing skills. It’s easy for even young learners in a hallway to create professional‑sounding podcasts with simple editing workflows and the addition of sound effects. This student‑led project is perfect for empowering all students to share their voice, and support their peers to share their voices as well.
