Tim engaged his students in cross-curricular activities in the garden to deepen their understanding of the living world with iPad.
Tim created a Pages template for his students to document their findings of a living vegetable garden over a term.
First, each student researched two vegetables and recorded their findings in the Garden Diary Pages table.
Next, using all the information about their vegetables, students designed a garden bed using Notes and placed a screenshot in their Garden Diary. Then
came the muddy part of planting the garden beds.
Students checked on the development of their garden beds. They took photos using the Camera app on iPad, measured the growth of their plants, and recorded
their observations using written notes and audio recordings in their Garden Diary.
Finally, students plotted out their checkpoint data into a table in Pages and reviewed the growth of their vegetables over time. Their Garden Diary was a
great way to show their observations and learnings to their teacher and class, while sharing the garden with the school.
With iPad we were able to combine research and observational skills with traditional subjects like maths and English in an outdoor activity.
