From Mosyle to Jamf question

We switched from Mosyle to Jamf last year and everything is moving OK. There is one feature I really miss that was on Mosyle and that was an ID Lock Screen on every device. It had the name of the user, their Apple ID, the serial number of the device.

My question, can you do that on Jamf? It is a great feature for elementary classes when iPads are left out.

Brian,

In jamf (at least Pro) you can set a profile that has a lock screen message. We use the following:

Lock Screen Footnote: If lost, please return this device to the Library.

Asset Tag Information: This iPad is assigned to $USERNAME.

The $USERNAME attribute populated with the username of the person in which the device is assigned, which for us is the students network username.

Hope that helps!

Another tip that might be a handy one ... we create a static device group called "iPad Maintenance" and then as we are building out our configuration profiles around restrictions / settings / etc set this group to be an exclusion from the scope. The reason we do this is every so often we need to troubleshoot devices and restrictions can get in the way.

When it is time to troubleshoot we can add student devices to this group and then restrictions are removed from devices to do troubleshooting. Once we are done with the device, we remove it from the group and the settings will re-apply. It's definitely been a handy one to have!
