Empowering My Autistic Students Through Coding for CSEdWeek

During Computer Science Education Week, I challenged my autistic students: they wanted to just pay computer games, I said they could only play games they built themselves. Though hesitant at first, they found block-based programming on tablets surprisingly intuitive.

The visual interface clicked with their learning style. As students dragged and dropped code blocks, their confidence soared. Watching them beam with pride while testing their own games became my favorite CSEdWeek memory – proof that coding empowers every student to create and excel in their own way.
