In the Palm of My Hand: The Efficacy of Mobile Devices in a Community College Developmental Writing Class Research Study

I conducted a two-semester research study with 23 participants to determine the efficacy of mobile device usage specifically in a community college writing classroom. The study was published in Teaching English in the Two Year College journal in March 2019. Check out the entire research study attached. While the study made use of iTunes U, the findings are still applicable to today's iOS ecosystem.

I specifically wanted to know three things:

1. How do students experience a writing course that mandates use of a mobile iOS device?

2. Can mobile iOS devices and apps help increase student confidence in their own writing ability and skills?

3. Can mobile iOS devices and apps help increase student writing competency?

The article is full of participant experiences and quotes, course framework and design, and additional resources in the mobile device and developmental writing fields.
