Book Jacket Project

After reading a novel, students created new and updated book jackets for the novel. Students had to include important parts of the book to show their understanding of the book like main characters, eluding to the plot/conflict and setting. In addition, they were taught about the main parts of every book cover like publisher, author, and so on. They had to interview their classmates for quotes and reviews about their book too.

Students either worked in Sketches first and added their picture to the keynote template or worked directly on the template. Students were able to add their picture to each shape, repeat the process, and then line up the images to create the whole jacket.

What a great idea! The template's canvas encourages students to represent what they've learned by engaging with symbol, motif, character, etc. Great integration of technology to support students showing what they know!

Thank you! Seeing the different versions and intricacies was the best part. This was done with 4th grade but I was just talking to my coworker about doing it with her 2nd graders too.

Hi Meredith,

Great minds think alike! I posted something very similar in August. I really enjoy doing this project with students I also have the children research newspaper book reviews for their covers. https://education.apple.com/en/resource/250009939

I like this creative way to have students summarize the book and visualize the story. Thanks for including your template!
