Creating Fun Maths Tasks

One of the things that helps promote student agency, and also contributes to productive workflows, is creating learning tasks that give students instant feedback.

The students know straight away if they have been successful or if they need to rethink their strategies, while also saving you time as the ‘marking’ is done for you.

Just how can you do this?

By using conditional formatting within a table in Keynote or Numbers.

My students had great fun playing Connect Four using their subtraction strategies made in Keynote while trying to get four in a row first. There was some great strategising going on. 😊

(Some students also used Mathigon to help them with their maths thinking.)

Here’s how to set up the conditional formatting.

You can always download the template below and change the maths tasks to suit your learners

I love creating conditional highlighting quizzes, providing instant feedback. It's a bit of work up front but worth the time investment when students can receive that feedback right away. Congratulations for a great implementation of this technology with your students. I'm sure they love this activity!

This is super cool! I can't wait to use this with my first graders once I modify it :)
