Rearrange Shapes

Some shapes in Keynote can be broken into smaller parts, then edited and rearranged to make new shapes. You can also group shapes so they move and resize as one object while retaining their own shape and style.

Break apart shapes.

In Keynote, you can divide a compound shape into separate parts.

Step 1

Add the spool shape to a new blank slide.

Step 2

Tap Format .

Step 3

Tap Arrange.

Step 4

At the bottom of the menu, tap Break Apart.

Step 5

To select multiple objects, touch and hold an empty part of the screen until a box appears, then drag the box across the objects that you want to select.

Step 6

To modify the selected parts, first tap Format .

Step 7

Tap Style.

Step 8

Tap the blue preset.

Tip

Copy and paste and reuse shapes or parts of shapes as many times as you want.

Group shapes.

Group objects to resize and move them together while maintaining their individual styles and colours. Then ungroup them to edit some more.

Step 1

Drag to select all the parts that you want to keep together.

Step 2

Tap Group.

Tip

Ungroup shapes for further edits if needed.

Design a robot.

Now that you know how to add and format shapes, combine them and break them apart, and group them together, you can use those skills to build a robot or anything else you want.
