Learn how to use the Autoplay feature in GarageBand to perform your chord progression with a few taps.
Step 1
Turn the Sustain control off.
Step 2
Turn the Autoplay knob to the first position.
Step 3
Tap the bottom segment of the C chord strip to play a bass note pattern.
Step 4
Tap the segment again to stop the pattern.
Step 5
Next, tap the middle segment of the C chord strip to play a chord pattern.
Step 6
Tap the segment again to stop the pattern.
Step 7
Tap the top segment of the C chord strip to play the bass and chord patterns together.
Step 8
Tap the segment again to stop the pattern.
Tip
Try tapping different chord strips. You’ll hear the same pattern, but with different notes.

Repeat these steps and explore different sounds with Autoplay patterns 2 and 4.
You’ve customized a drum groove, practised your chord progression and chosen an Autoplay pattern. Now it’s time to record your first song.

Tap Go to Beginning .

Turn the Autoplay knob to 3.

Before you record, review these steps:

Tap Stop at any time.

Tap Play to hear what you just recorded.
Tip
If you didn’t get the perfect recording, you can always tap Undo and record again.
Tip
If you accidentally undo something you want to keep, touch and hold Undo for a Redo option.
