"Create for a Cause" - Raising Awareness through Creativity

In 2021 during our second lockdown in the UK, I was struggling with working from home and finding the motivation to keep connected and engaged with the education community. I was longing for a project bound in creativity that would allow me to feel inspired and linked with educators around the world. In the past I had thoroughly enjoyed working with fellow Apple Distinguished Educator Simon Pile on his "Doodle Your World" series, and was keen to continue pushing the bounds of creativity. In the UK we have an annual celebration called "Comic Relief" (also called Red Nose Day) which is rooted in the idea of using comedy to raise awareness about helping those that live with discrimination, violence and poverty. I loved what Red Nose Day represented, and the idea that it was using creative comedy to make others aware. Therefore in February of 2021 I put out a call for help on Twitter, asking fellow ADE's to participate in making an education resource to support Comic Relief and raise awareness through creativity. Working entirely through a collaborative Pages file and Twitter chat, our first creation was born "Create for Comic Relief". We poured so much enthusiasm into the ideas making up our first book, and enjoyed the process so much that it felt natural to continue. So here we are, a year later, with over 40,000 downloads of our 11 books, with a whole new collection still to come that will address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. And with participation and contributions from Apple Distinguished Educators and Apple Teachers across the global, the entire Create for a Cause team is truly in awe at what we have managed to accomplish. To hear a message from our Core Team click here. All our books can be downloaded for free in iBooks or through the links below:

Create for Comic Relief, Create for Earth Day, Create for Mental Health, Create for Oceans, Create for Bees, Create for Wildlife, Create for Climate Change, Create for Equality, Create for Wellness, Create for Kindness, Create for Women

If you are an Apple Teacher, Apple Learning Coach, or Apple Distinguished Educator and would like to be a contributor to the "Create for a Cause" series, please message me on Twitter @lyndsdive85 to express your interest in our United Nations Sustainable Development goals books.

Fantastic Book Talk Lindsey! I love your collaborative series - so many great ideas. Each “Create Book” speaks to a challenge that is so important. Thank you! Looking forward to the upcoming “Create for a Cause” books. This lends itself so well to Challenge Based Learning.

Sharing this in the #AppleEDULeaderChat on Twitter tonight -- what a great way to build student leaders -- empower them to use their creativity for a great cause...head/heart/hands.
