Student Created Science Animations to Deepen Understanding

Student created animations are a great way to check for understanding and have students deepen their understanding.

Animations can be used as both a learning tool and as a way for students to demonstrate their mastery of content. The teaching methods described in this book provide opportunities for students to engage and re-engage with material in ways never possible before.

This book leverages an app called Animation Creator HD but students can also use Keynote in a similar way. I taught biology and Anatomy/Physiology for ten years and used this method and stop motion to help my students tackle exceptionally challenging material. When animation is pair with iMovie or Clips to record student voice students are forced to share their knowledge visually and vocally.

I hope you check this resource out and post ways your students are leveraging animation in the classroom.

Such a great resource! Thanks for sharing. I think animations have so much potential in the classroom, would love to hear how anyone is using them.
