After working hard on their Geography, my Year 8 class had earned some free time at the end of the lesson. I went around chatting with the students and saw a few playing SimCity Build It. It looked so fun! I started watching for a little longer and I had a lightbulb moment - Thank you Sims! The game is such a fun and accessible way for students to understand the concepts of Urbanisation, especially rapid expansion and finite resources. So, the next lesson, every student had downloaded the app and started completing this journal. My students said they really enjoyed the lesson and got a lot out of it too (bonus!). Here's the journal below! Happy building!

Love this idea!! When I used to teach 7th grade, we used a simulation called "The Urban Game" to help students understand the rapid changes that occurred in society during the Industrial Revolution. This is a similar, updated idea for helping students gain a more concrete understanding of these concepts. Thanks for sharing the learning journal to scaffold the experience!
