Nurture in Nature
From childhood to adulthood, I've spent a great deal of time in the outdoors. Running, camping, hiking, biking, bird watching, star gazing, or just sitting beside my favorite hemlock, nature has always been where I seek my solitude and how I recharge my soul. During the pandemic, it became very clear just how important spending time in nature was for my mental health. During this time, I authored a book, Nurture in Nature, that shares some of the in-depth research supporting time in nature and its effect on Mental Health. This book focuses on elements of nature; color, light, sounds, etc and has complimentary iPad activities to encourage others to focus in on these elements and create resources to support mental health when back indoors.
Nurture in Nature Activity Cards
To make it more convenient to have the activity cards with you, I've released a pocket version of Nurture in Nature activities. These cards were created in Keynote. To use, just print off the Keynote slides, add a hole punch in the corner and combine on a key ring. Then you can tuck these activities in your pocket as you head off to find some solitude and create in nature.
Recommendation: print on card stock to make cards more durable.
Question to Ponder: How are you working to get your students connected with nature? Do you have adequate green space within your school property for students to explore? How can we be creative to ensure that all of our students have experiences with nature?
