Unconference: Share Your Favourite Resource

This post is part of the UnConference sessions from the 2024 Apple Education Community Summit.

This session came about after several discussions with other educators throughout the conference and a consensus around the value of coming away from a conference or professional development with high quality, ready-to-use resources.

Teachers are often quite humble and play down the good work that they do, dismissing the idea that sharing a tried and tested resource could really benefit others. Finding a quality resource can save time, serve as a starting point or prompt the generation of new ideas and resources.

Below I have shared a sample of my own tried and tested resources. Please reply to this post and share a favourite resource of yours!

This Numbers file is one that we use with our Year 2s. We get them to design logos for a product. They are only allowed to use basic shapes in Numbers to create their logos, but they can do whatever they want with them.

Each time they create a logo in the Makerspace tab, they copy it and paste it into the Logos tab and give it a number. After they’ve all created their logos they move around the class and use the form to collect votes about which of their logos is the most effective. The votes get turned into the pie chart on the Form Data page.

Students then use that information to produce their best logo on the final tab.

I hope it’s useful.

This is another Numbers document where students track their screen time across a number of platforms. At the start of the process students need to change the pop-up menu in the form to reflect the platforms that they’re going to use over the week, and then they need to also add those platforms to the table. Then they use the form to track their screen time. At the end of the week they use the data to create charts that they include in a report about their screen time patterns and how they might change them.
