Sentence Pattern Charts - Digital Writing Practice Book for Multilingual Learners

Sentence Pattern Charts are a fantastic tool to help Multilingual Learners (MLs) expand their vocabulary and writing skills. Sentence Pattern Charts use a visual format, making it easier for students to understand sentence structure and the role of different word types.  By focusing on specific sentence patterns, students are introduced to new vocabulary within a familiar context. This helps them learn new words and their usage in meaningful sentences.

I have found this structured writing approach helps students gain confidence in their writing abilities as they can see their progress as they learn new patterns and create more complex sentences. I have created a Sentence Pattern Chart Digital Writing Practice Book for my Multilingual Learners to use during our writing center. Students open the book on their iPad and use the sentence pattern charts to guide them in writing complete sentences pencil to paper in their writing notebook. Some charts contain a "Bumble Bee" icon meaning that students are to insert an adjective found on one of our vocabulary anchor charts around the room. (Examples of these anchor charts are: colors, texture, size, shape, numbers. And I chose to use a Bumble Bee icon to match the theme of my classroom :) )

In conclusion Sentence Pattern Charts provide a structured and engaging way to help ELLs develop their language proficiency and become confident writers. Take a look at a page from the Digital Writing Practice book below!
