Winter is the perfect time to embrace creativity and digital learning! Whether you’re a teacher looking to engage your students during the season or a parent searching for fun learning activities, the Winter Creativity Workbook in Pages has you covered. With 12 interactive activities, this workbook introduces students to Pages’ built-in features, alongside tools like Clips and the Camera app, all while fostering creativity and digital skills.
The best part? Each activity includes a step-by-step video tutorial, so teachers of all technology experience levels can implement this with ease. Let’s explore the winter wonderland of activities waiting for you!
❄️ 12 Winter Creativity Activities
1. Winter Drawing
Students can use Pages’ drawing tools to create an original winter-themed masterpiece. From snowmen to cozy cabins, the possibilities are endless!
2. Snow Globe Wonderland
Using Pages’ built-in Shapes feature, students can create their own magical snow globe scene. Combine shapes, customize colors, and add a personal touch to bring their vision to life.
3. Frost Forward
With the Camera app’s Time-Lapse feature, students can record the process of creating a drawing on paper. Watching their artwork come to life in fast motion adds a unique layer of excitement and reflection, while putting emphasis on the process, rather than the product.
4. Wintery Photo
Use the Markup feature built right into the Camera (or Photos) app to add some text or drawings on top of a winter photograph!
5. Shape Portrait
Spruce up a selfie using Pages’ Shapes tools! Students can layer shapes and add creative elements to transform their photos into vibrant, playful portraits.
6. Toy Commercial
Using the Clips app, students can create a short, fun commercial for their favorite toy (or one they’re nostalgic about). This activity blends storytelling, media creation, and a touch of winter magic!
7. Photo Gallery
Students will take a variety of winter-themed photos—indoors, outdoors, or wherever they find inspiration—and arrange them in a beautifully designed collage template in the workbook. It’s the perfect way to curate and celebrate winter moments.
8. Winter Memory
Using Pages’ audio recording feature, students can share a spoken memory of their favorite winter moment. Whether it’s sledding, holiday celebrations, or cozy nights by the fire, this activity brings stories to life.
9. Gingerbread House
Students can pick a gingerbread house shape in Pages and decorate it using the drawing tools. Add candy canes, gumdrops, and frosting—digitally, of course! It's much less sticky this way!
10. Ugly Sweater
Let creativity run wild as students design their own ugly sweater using Pages’ drawing tools. The sillier and more festive, the better!
11. Cut Snowflake
In my favorite activity of the whole set -- Students will create a snowflake slice using Pages’ shapes, then duplicate and rotate the slice to reveal the magic of symmetry—just like cutting out real paper snowflakes, but digitally!
12. Clips E-Card
Students can spread winter cheer by creating a digital greeting card in the Clips app. Animated posters, music, and personalized messages make this a fun way to celebrate the season.
Easy Implementation for Teachers
Each of these activities is designed to be fun, engaging, and accessible for learners of all ages. For teachers or parents new to Pages or Clips, step-by-step video tutorials are included for every activity. The videos provide clear instructions on how to use the tools and create the projects, ensuring confidence and success no matter your technology experience level.
Here are some quick tips for getting started:
• AirDrop the file to your students, or share the link to your Learning Management System (such as Canvas or Schoology)
• For a few of the activities, students will need winter photographs, so it can be fun to start out by taking even 10-15 minutes to do photography. Encourage students to get up close and try unique angles when taking their photos, and have them to take many so that they have a few to choose from for each activity! They can be inside or outside, and can feature anything from snowy footprints, to ornaments, lights and more! Whatever makes them think of winter!
• Encourage students to help each other! They love the chance to share their knowledge with each other! This is one of my favorite tricks! "If you're finished, find someone who isn't, and give them some tips and tricks!"
• When students are done, have them showcase a few of their activities for the class! This is super easy if you're using Apple Classroom! Simply connect to your Apple TV or projector from your teacher device, then open Classroom and switch to Screen View. You can simply tap on each student to give them a chance to share on the big screen!
