Emoji Expressions: Bringing Words to Life with Motion Graphics

Ready to create a motion graphic that speaks for itself? In this exciting Keynote project, you’ll design each letter of a word with its own emoji, bringing them to life one by one. As each letter enters with its emoji, the word slowly comes together, with the emojis enhancing the meaning.

This project connects art, language, and technology, helping you strengthen your storytelling and design skills while exploring how visuals and text work together to communicate ideas. In the end, you’ll have a dynamic, colorful motion graphic that tells a story through both letters and symbols. Let’s turn your ideas into a moving masterpieces.

Process:

Slide with screenshots of steps.

Step 1: Use the Notes app to brainstorm words, their meaning, and images that might support them.

Step 2: Launch Keynote and delete extra text boxes. Consider changing the background color.

Step 3: Type your first letter, use the format tools to select font style, size and color.

Step 4: Create a new text box, tap the emoji keyboard and select, or use Genmoji’s to create your own, again you can adjust size and placement.

Step 5. Create a new slide with letter and emoji. Repeat for each letter.

Step 6 On the last slide type the whole word, surrounding it with emojis to enhance the meaning. Export as video and share.

Extensions:

  • Create looping GIF’s
  • Add voice to each slide with recorded audio…in multiple languages?
  • Collaborate as a class to create a vocabulary unit video with each student contributing a word.

Connections

  • ELA Have students animate a poem line by line.
  • Science or Social Studies Create a PSA about climate change, pollution, or recycling OR on human rights, showing powerful words like “Freedom,” “Justice,” or “Equality.”
  • Math Show an equation solving itself through animated numbers moving into place.
  • Music add voice, beats, and rhythms for spoken word poetry or rap.

With Keynote and creativity, the possibilities are endless. I cannot wait to see how you and your students integrate this idea. Please share your ideas and examples to inspire others.
