Context
This activity encourages students to write about a topic they are passionate about. By focusing on something familiar and engaging, students can build confidence in their writing skills while practising descriptive language, logical structure, and personal expression.
Preparation and Flow
Introduction
Ask: What’s your favourite game? Why do you love it?
Have a quick class discussion or brainstorm on the board.
Planning Ideas
Students jot down notes or fill in prompts:
What is the game called?
Is it digital, board, card, or outdoor?
How do you play it?
Why is it your favourite?
Who do you play it with?
Writing Time
Students write a short paragraph or essay (depending on level) using their notes as a guide. And have it presented as a visual guide complete with game image mock-ups, reviews etc. Tapping into the interest students have in their virtual communities.
Possible Extension
Not limited by platform. Students can access various apps to do the writing and mock-ups on their iPad.
