Photo Walks: Creativity in Everyday Shapes

Photo Walks are an incredible way to make learning active, but also get students and staff thinking deeply about tasks at hand. All you'll need is your iPad, Camera, Markup and Keynote if you're feeling bold!

Photo Walks are a great way to kick off your school year, and build community. Task your students to find their name in everyday shapes. Students open their cameras, capture images that look like letters, and then use markup to trace over the shapes. This activity builds not only creativity, but also problem-solving and observation skills.

Slide titled “Build community” showing examples of students spelling their names with photos of everyday objects.

Beyond community building, Photo Walks can enhance acquisition of content knowledge in math (shapes, angles), ELA (symbols, themes), and science (observable changes). Educators and even staff teams have used it to collaborate and reflect.

Slide titled “Enhance content” showing students using the camera and markup tools to outline and label shapes.

Please feel free to utilize the Keynote template below in your spaces, remembering that it can truly be utilized in any content area and grade level with simple modifications.
