As an Apple teacher, coach and Literacy Specialist I am always looking for targeted and tailored effective resources.
This year my Year 2 and 3 students have really enjoyed our "Word Nerds" activities incorporating spelling and vocabulary learning. One part of that has been using a Frayer Model to develop knowledge at a Tier 1 level. It can also be adapted for Tier 2 and 3 as well as extension learning. This can be done as explicit teaching, collaboratively or independently depending on the age, level or needs of your ākonga. It can also be used across curriculum areas and for cross curricular knowledge development. A teacher can record key learning and pronunciation, or students themselves can do this. Photography can be used to personalise the related image or alternatively this can be made through Image Playground with a specific and detailed prompt.
I have also used "Word Nerds" as a driver to guide learning around "how to write an effective AI prompt" and "How can I receive back AI information and images that are accurate and precise?"
Research shows that in depth vocabulary and spelling learning has positive impacts on all areas of Literacy from comprehension, fluency to syntax and spelling. Why not encourage your students to become "Word Nerds" too!
