Learning grammar can sometimes feel abstract and disconnected from students’ daily experiences. To make the learning of prepositions more authentic and engaging, this lesson combines storytelling, listening, map exploration, and sentence construction using Apple Maps, Keynote, and Pages. Students first watch an animated story created with Apple Maps, Keynote and iMovie, identify prepositions used in the narration, and then explore familiar locations to create their own sentences. Through observation, discussion, and sharing, students transform grammar learning into a meaningful and creative experience.

Lesson Overview
Engage: Listen to the Story
Students watch an animated video created using Apple Maps and Keynote with voice-over narration. The story follows Amir and his friends as they visit restaurants around SMK SS17 after school.
Students:
- watch the video and listen carefully to the voice-over;
- identify and list the prepositions used in the story; and
- replay the video if necessary.
The teacher facilitates a discussion and reviews the prepositions identified by the students.
Explore and Create
Students use QuickTime Player to create a screen recording of their Apple Maps exploration. As they zoom in and out and switch between Explore, Satellite, and Hybrid modes, they can narrate their observations or add captions to explain the relationships between locations using prepositions, transforming their exploration into a digital storytelling experience.
Working individually or in pairs, students use Journal Pages provided to write five sentences using prepositions based on the locations they discover.
Students are encouraged to:
- use real place names;
- include descriptive details; and
- create one imaginative or humorous sentence.
Share and Discuss
Selected students present their work to the class by displaying their Apple Maps screenshots and reading their sentences aloud.
Classmates and the teacher provide feedback by discussing:
- Which prepositions were used correctly?
- Which sentence was the most creative?
- How could the sentence be improved?
Reflect
Students reflect on their learning by responding to the following questions:
- What new prepositions did you learn today?
- How did Apple Maps help you understand prepositions?
- Which place would you like to visit and why?
Students may record their reflections in Pages or share them verbally with the class.

By connecting grammar learning to familiar locations and digital storytelling, students actively explore, observe, create, and communicate. Apple Maps transforms the learning of prepositions from isolated grammar exercises into authentic experiences that foster creativity, collaboration, and meaningful language use.
