Are You My Mother is a short digital animation created entirely using Apple Keynote, iMovie, and GarageBand, demonstrating how creativity and storytelling can be brought to life using everyday Apple productivity and creativity tools.
The animation begins in Keynote, where characters were designed on storyboard, backgrounds, and visual elements using built-in shapes, drawing tools, and simple animations. Animated GIFs are also incorporated to create expressive movements and enhance the visual storytelling.
The animated scenes are then exported and assembled in iMovie, the complete video production workflow, including scene sequencing, timing, transitions, titles, and final video editing were done. This process introduces the fundamentals of digital film production while developing storytelling and visual communication skills.
To enrich the viewing experience, GarageBand is used to produce the movie's audio elements. Background music were from audio soundtrack of Fol De Rol in iMovie thought to be most suitable to convey emotion and atmosphere of this particular story
Additional royalty-free audio resources, such as downloaded turkey gobble sound effects, together with reference materials and visual inspirations, are thoughtfully incorporated to support the narrative while demonstrating responsible use of freely available digital resources.
This project showcases how three Apple applications can be seamlessly integrated to produce a complete animated story—from concept development and visual design to animation, video editing, and audio production. It also nurtures creativity, digital literacy, design thinking, and multimedia communication, making it an engaging learning experience that aligns with the objectives of the Malaysian Secondary School Pendidikan Seni Visual (PSV) curriculum and the Everyone Can Create framework.
