LEARNING STANDARD : Demonstrate the correct R.I.C.E. procedure when responding to injuries.
OBJECTIVES :
- State the principles and procedures of R.I.C.E.
- Demonstrate the steps of the R.I.C.E. procedure correctly.
- Explain emergency situations that are appropriate for the use of the R.I.C.E. procedure.
ENGAGE - WATCH A VIDEO
- Show a video related to R.I.C.E.
- Ask students: “When you hear the word RICE, what comes to your mind?”
- Reveal the twist: Today, we are not learning about rice as food.
- Introduce the lesson: R.I.C.E. (first-aid method)
EXPLORE
Activity 1: Watch, Observe & Solve
- Teacher shows a short video about an injured athlete.
- Students watch and look for clues.
- Students use the clues to solve the situation and connect it to first aid/R.I.C.E.
Activity 2: SOLVE -MYSTERY CARD
EXPLAIN - WATCH A VIDEO
Teacher reveals the R.I.C.E. method after all groups complete their cards.
ELABORATE- DEMOSTRATION
- Group gets an injury scenario.
- Assign roles: Injured athlete, First aider, Observer.
- Demonstrate R.I.C.E. correctly and safely.
- Observer checks the steps and technique.
- Give peer feedback: One positive comment + one improvement.
EVALUATE – Scaffolding Quiz
REFLECTION
At the end of the lesson, students reflect individually:
- 3 things I learned about R.I.C.E.
- 2 first-aid skills I can apply.
- 1 thing I need to improve.

“How will you use R.I.C.E. if a friend gets injured during sports?”
