Trust the Machine? Interrogating How AI Learns

In this activity, students dig into how machine learning makes decisions. They explore how algorithms pick up patterns they were never explicitly taught and how does bias enter through human decisions and not just algorithms. Students also challenge the idea that “90% accurate” means “fair,” considering who bears the cost of the remaining 10%. The goal is to build critical thinking about data, bias, and accountability in AI systems.
