Visually prove that a² + b² = c² by observing the area of rearranged shapes.Use Keynote's spatial animations to demonstrate geometric logic dynamically.
8. About the Lesson & Assessment
Students will explore the mathematical proof of the Pythagoras theorem by manipulating four identical right-angled triangles. By rearranging these shapes within a constant larger square boundary, they can visually deduce that the area of the square formed by the hypotenuse (c²) equals the sum of the areas of the squares formed by the other two sides (a² + b²). For assessment, students watch this animated proof in Keynote and explain the area conservation verbally.
9. Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1 (Prepare): Draw a right-angled triangle with sides a, b, and c, then duplicate it four times. Draw three squares to represent the areas a², b², and c².
Step 2 (Layout 1): On the first slide, arrange the four triangles to form a large square with side (a+b), leaving an empty square gap in the center perfectly sized for c².
Step 3 (Layout 2): Duplicate the slide. Rearrange the triangles into two a × b rectangles. This leaves two new empty gaps perfectly sized for the a² and b² squares, proving the remaining area is equal.
Step 4 (Animate): Apply the "Magic Move" transition between the two slides to smoothly animate the geometric proof.
Step 5 (Share): Export the Keynote as a movie or share the presentation file.
