BI 4.2.4: Describe basic information about themselves using simple sentences.
BI 4.3.2: Spell most high-frequency words accurately in guided writing.
Duration: 60 minute
Learning Objectives
Read and extract personal information (name, age, country, family, hobby) from a model pen pal text.
Complete a structured pen pal writing template on iPad with accurate personal details and sentence structures.
Present and share their pen pal profile digitally with peers.
About the Learning Activity
Students explore a interactive digital profile introducing a boy named Kumar. Using guided visual prompts and sentence starters, students then design their own personalized digital pen pal profile to practice self-introduction and informal writing skills.
Learning Activity
Explore: Teacher presents the "Meet Kumar" slides on iPad to trigger prior knowledge. Students identify key personal details (name, age, state, family, hobby) by responding to targeted comprehension questions ("Where does he live?", "What is his favourite sport?").
Create: Students open the "Find Your Pen Pal" template on Keynote or Freeform. Using Apple Pencil or the markup tool, they fill in the blanks with their own information and draw or insert an illustration/photo representing themselves and their hobbies.
Share & Reflect: Students pair up to present their digital profiles to a partner, giving peer feedback on spelling and sentence accuracy, and reflect on what they learned about their classmates.
Learning Materials
"Meet My Pen Pal Friend" presentation deck (Keynote / Freeform)
Interactive guided writing template slide ("Find Your Pen Pal")
Sample profile text ("Meet Kumar")
Learning Outcomes & Assessment
Expected Output: A completed digital pen pal profile page with filled-in sentence frames and custom illustrations/photos.
Assessment Approach: Formative assessment through teacher observation during writing, peer assessment during profile sharing, and evaluation of written sentence accuracy on the template.
Reflection & Adaptation
Adaptation for Differentiation: Offer audio recordings of sentence prompts for low-proficiency pupils, or challenge high-proficiency pupils to expand their pen pal entries into full paragraph letters without sentence frame constraints.
