1. What I Created
I created a digital Snakes and Ladders grammar game using Apple Keynote. The resource helps Form 3 students practice verbs and sentence construction through an interactive, game-based learning experience. I also used iMovie to enhance the presentation with animations, transitions and background music.
2. Tools & Requirements
• MacBook/iPad
• Apple Keynote – To design the game board using shapes, text and images.
• Apple iMovie – To add transitions, animations and background music.
• Digital or physical dice.
• Player tokens or counters.
• Projector or interactive display (optional).
3. Step-by-Step Creation Guide
1. Open Apple Keynote and create a blank presentation.
2. Use shapes to design the Snakes and Ladders board.
3. Add numbered squares and different verbs to each square.
4. Insert images of snakes, ladders, dice and other decorative elements.
5. Arrange the elements to create an attractive and colourful game board.
6. Export the Keynote project as a video.
7. Import the video into iMovie.
8. Add transitions, animations and background music to enhance the presentation.
9. Export the final video and share it with students.
4. Tips for Educators
• Use familiar and age-appropriate vocabulary.
• Adjust the verbs according to students’ proficiency levels.
• Encourage students to construct complete sentences rather than simply identify verbs.
• Provide sentence starters or examples to support weaker learners.
• Make the activity more challenging by asking students to use different tenses.
5. Classroom Application
Students can participate individually, in pairs or in small groups. Teachers can display the digital game board on a screen. For the dice, educators can use either a physical dice or a virtual dice displayed on a device. Students take turns rolling the dice, moving their counters and constructing sentences using the verbs on the squares they land on. The activity can be adapted for different class sizes and proficiency levels.
7. Share & Inspire
I invite fellow educators to recreate, adapt and personalise this resource to suit their classroom needs. Feel free to explore different vocabulary themes, add new challenges and share your creative versions with the teaching community.
