Student Created Newsletter Podcast

During the week, students collaborate to make a podcast on GarageBand about what happens during the week including Math, ELA, STEM, Social Studies and specialty classes. They include examples of student glows and other important events during the work or upcoming.

Summaries of the classes are written on pages and then students use the presentation mode to use it like a teleprompter.

Not interested in participating in the recorded part? Students also have the opportunity to make music for the podcast using GarageBand.

Not a fan of GarageBand? Students are also in charge of making the album covers for their podcast, too.

Lots of job choices for your students on the newsletter podcast - fantastic - just like in a newsroom!

Wow — the weekly parent newsletter certainly has evolved! 🤩

❤️everything about this project, but the standouts for me...

  • How the traditional teacher task (communicating with parents) has been turned into a collective classroom project.
  • How it fosters a sense of ownership and pride by providing a role for everyone, catering to each learner's unique interests, skillsets, and comfort zones.
  • How it promotes teamwork and collaboration, builds important social skills, and empowers learners to become creators.
  • How GarageBand makes it so easy to podcast in the classroom while building so many essential skills like, Public Speaking, Media Literacy, Student Voice and Choice -- just to name a few.

Thanks Meredith, for sharing such a wonderful project. 🙌🏻

Can’t wait to see how other teachers bring this idea into their learning environments.

I wanted to tap ❤️ on Erika’s comment, but the forum doesn’t allow it. So here it is…

What a fantastic way for students to create and share what's going on in class! Not only does it give them ownership over that school to home communication, but there are so many ways that they can participate in this project. Voice and choice - thanks for sharing!

What a cool collaboration this could be for students with varied interests!

Hey Meredith -

This is an outstanding project in which students can participate according to their interests/abilities. I love that it incorporates summarizing material, audio production in GarageBand [you know how much I love GarageBand🎵🤓], music composition in GarageBand, and cover art creation. Congratulations for making a huge effort to reach each of your students and allowing them to contribute in their own ways.🥳

As I prepare for the coming academic year, I hope to provide a variety of methods for students to demonstrate their comprehension of the subject matter. I’ll be using this idea as an option for a group activity. Thanks!
