Last year my district was asked to get involved with the Challenge Based Learning program. I decided to give my 6th grade challenge class the opportunity to make a difference.
I started both years brainstorming with my classes and we came up with 2 different projects. Last years group worked on and created murals for the elementary schools in our district. It took a ton of time and effort, but we built a welcoming fence panel for all 4 schools.
This year my students wanted to have a multicultural event. We researched different countries and had 10 stations with 27 different foods from different cultures. We also had performances from Chinese and Korean dance and drum groups. It was a super success and we made over $1600 for a local animal rescue group!
I am attaching a picture from this years event. It was exhilarating watching my 6th graders rise to the challenge of helping their community.

Congratulations to you and your students for being school community supporters. So cool that you used Challenge Based Learning. It is really a wonderful format for getting learners engaged and involved - and your learners certainly did!
