Colonize Mars? LET'S DEBATE! Using Freeform in Space Science

In my Space Science class I start off our Social Implications unit with a debate. I have struggled with how to organize this activity, after all, I'm a physics teacher and do not have a lot of experience moderating a debate.

In the past, I had each team just make a slide show and compile their information that way, but what I quickly realized is they kept having to go back and forth in their deck to defend or prompt the next point.

TODAY!! (Thanks Christine Klynen) I used Freeform! World changed!

Students broke into teams and collaborated on one board with all of their research/links/pictures in one place. They just slid around the space to defend or prompt the next discussion. AMAZING! I'm excited for my students to get better at using the platform and make it more productive, but for a quick overview and only 15 minutes of preparation time, I was very happy with the results.

I attached the assignment. Enjoy! #D214 #ADEPhysics

Super idea Katie! I hadn’t thought of Freeform for debates but what you’ve put together really works. Nice organizational structure!

What a great way to get students to discuss topics, and simultaneously create a visual board of ideas. This is a great idea across multiple curriculum areas.

Freeform is such a great choice for this activity, Katie!

Sometimes, we never know where the conversation and ideas will go, so the infinite canvas in Freeform allows for great flexibility and can follow the lines of thought and ideas of your students!
