Below are some ideas that we used in classrooms this week to celebrate the Chinese New Year. We mixed traditional and digital lesson ideas and captured the experiences, creativity and fun in Clips for a recap video at the end of the lessons.
Literacy - Chinese Vocabulary Bingo.
We started off the day with a bingo literacy challenge in Keynote where students had to match words with pictures as they were called
Literacy - Chinese new year thoughts and dreams dragons.
Next week filled in some hopes and dreams for the new year into some notes and folded them to make dragon decorations. The original shapes were drawn on Keynote and cut with Cricut for students to fill in.
Co-ordination and communication restaurant role-plays.
Next students practices co-ordination and communication by ordering items in a Chinese restaurant role-play before practicing to eat food with chopsticks. After successfully using chopsticks they learned about fortune cookies.
Chinese GarageBand Loops
After eating all the food it was time for a movement break. Students learned how to use GarageBand loops specifically the Chinese Modern and Chinese Traditional Loops to create some music while the class created a dragon dance in rhythm to the music.
Capturing the creativity with Clips.
Throughout the day the creativity was captured by students using Clips where they used the Lunar new year poster and stickers to customise their footage the Clips recap was showcased at the end of the day.

These are wonderful and fun Miriam! Such a great way to celebrate the Lunar New Year! Love the “Dragon Notes,” GarageBand loops and use of the Lunar New Year Poster in Clips.
Here is my little Keynote celebration using Shapes and Animation. The background is a Library of Congress primary source of San Francisco China Town. So much fun to put this together.
