ADE Impact Reflection 2024 with Freeform

Here is my reflection video using screen record and Freeform; simple, easy. I also used GenAI to help me write a script which is below this video. Definitely not my most profound or polished work, but gets the job done. I worked with an AP English teacher this year that had her students stop doing slide shows and start using Freeform in this way. Enjoy!

Hi, I'm Katie Page, and I'm excited to reflect on my journey as an Apple Distinguished Educator over the past year. This Freeform  highlights the key milestones and stories that showcase my impact, which I’ll walk you through in this video.

MATH NOTES:Let’s start with a project I’m incredibly proud of—collaborating with a brand content manager at Apple to develop an example screen showcasing the Math Notes feature for iPad and iPhone.

As a physics teacher, I contributed my expertise on the physics of roller coasters, ensuring the content was not just engaging but also accurate. After months of collaboration, it was amazing to see my work featured in an Apple advertisement for the iPad Mini!

Forum: Next, I’ve embraced my role as an Ambassador for the Apple Education Forum. In this position, I actively engage in the Science section, contributing reflections and insights to support fellow educators. It’s been fulfilling to foster collaboration and share best practices, helping others make the most of Apple technologies in their classrooms. I even have used the Translate tool to collaborate with people from around the world.

IDEACon 24: Another highlight from the year was my session at IDEACon 2024. I led a workshop on using GarageBand, where attendees learned how to integrate this tool into their teaching practices. Seeing educators leave inspired and ready to create with their students was a rewarding experience.

NEW ROLE: Finally, I took on an exciting new role as Instructional Technology Coordinator. This position has allowed me to expand my impact beyond just my classroom, supporting educators with Apple technologies, GenAI, and digital tools to enhance teaching and learning.  

I have created a website where I connect with staff across the district and can highlight Apple Technologies, along with providing PD many times per week for staff. 

I also get to attend “Let’s Go Illinois!” With other ADEs and apple distinguished schools.

These experiences have shaped my journey as an ADE this year. From collaborating on high-impact projects to sharing knowledge at events and forums, I’m grateful for the opportunities to make a difference.
