Introduce yourself... via an app!

Introducing to your new students (if you're a teacher) or introducing yourself to your classmates (if you're a student) can be a challenging opportuinity that takes place at the start of every school year.

Within the school year 2024/2025 I decided to take a different approach with my students of the Computer Science course (in High School, age range from 11 to 13 yo. ) by challenging them to introduce themself in a unique way: via an app!

Usually when a class meets a new teacher or new students, they share some informations about themself with a presentation (we work with iPads so usually with Keynote) but after playing a little bit with Swift Playgrounds this summer I think it was time to change the rules of the game!

The first lesson was dedicated to this: learn a little bit about how Swift Playgrounds works and start to customize the "About me" template that is available by-default.

Aware of the fact that my students had a background of programming in general it was not a problem to "translate" the syntax of something they know (ie. Python or C) to Swift.

After that, half of the work was done, now it was time to customize the App in order to make it rappresenting their unique qualities and passions.

After a week it was the presentation day. The results were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

What an incredible way to have your students share about themselves in a fun, creative way while also learning the skills necessary for your course. I'm sure the students lit up when they shared their presentations with each other!

What a great way to kill two birds with one stone, in a fun way!
