In our initial iPad deployment, we installed the Clever app prominently on the home screen. However, we encountered challenges with students frequently having to sign in each time they opened the app (and the app pops up first asking to sign in with QR code), leading to disruptions and increased support requests.
To improve the user experience and streamline access to learning resources, we transitioned to a webclip-centric approach, leveraging the capabilities of our MDM solution, Mosyle (or similar MDMs like Jamf).
Here's the rationale behind our decision:
Enhanced User Experience: The web clip provided a seamless and app-like experience. Students can access Clever with a single tap, without the need for repeated logins since it immediately looks at their Google Login, improving their overall learning experience. Additionally, according to documentation provided by Clever, it already opens up in the browser anyway.

Reduced Login Issues: Unlike the app, which often required students to re-enter their credentials, the web clip leverages their existing Google account session, eliminating login frustrations and minimizing disruptions to classroom time .
Simplified Workflow: With the web clip readily available on the home screen, students can access Clever quickly and efficiently. This streamlined workflow allows them to focus on learning rather than troubleshooting login issues.
Efficient Management: Mosyle (or Jamf, or MDM) allows for easy deployment and management of web clips, ensuring all students have access to the resource while also allowing for customization of the web clip's appearance and functionality. We put our academic crest in the middle of the Clever Logo to help students and teachers distinguish which one to click on.
To further guide students towards the web clip, we strategically placed the Clever app in a less prominent location on the home screen. This approach ensures the app remains accessible for SSO purposes with other learning applications while minimizing accidental launches. In reflection, adopting the web clip strategy from the beginning would have been more efficient. It has proven to be a more user-friendly and effective solution for accessing Clever on student iPads.
