Empowering Youth Through Creativity & Connection at Experience CSUF

This month, we had the incredible opportunity to participate in Experience CSUF—Cal State Fullerton’s vibrant college club rush event—by hosting an engaging, youth-powered Learning Lab in collaboration with our partners at Passage to the Future (CSUF), CSUN, and multiple Boys & Girls Clubs across the region.

Each of the three Clubs took charge of one creative booth, turning the space into a hub of energy, storytelling, and innovation that captured the attention of families, students, and university staff alike.

🎤 Journalism Interviews – At this booth, Club members stepped into the role of young journalists, conducting real-time interviews with prospective families, current CSUF students, and staff. It was an authentic opportunity for our youth to develop public speaking skills, ask thoughtful questions, and explore the power of storytelling and media—all while learning to use iPads and other Apple tools to capture audio and video on the fly.

🧑‍🎨 Genmoji Creation – Visitors then moved to our Genmoji station, where they worked alongside experienced Club members to create personalized digital avatars. This fun and expressive activity not only sparked conversations about identity and self-representation, but also demonstrated the accessibility of creative tools for youth of all ages. The smiles and laughter were nonstop as each Genmoji came to life.

📸 Green Screen Photos with Tuffy – To cap off the experience, guests posed for green screen photos with none other than Tuffy the Titan, CSUF’s beloved mascot! With custom digital backgrounds and some imaginative posing, participants walked away with fun keepsakes and memories that highlighted the joy of tech-infused creativity.

The collaborative effort between Passage to the Future at CSUFCSUN, and our network of Boys & Girls Clubs made this Learning Lab something truly special. It wasn’t just about showcasing student creativity—it was about building bridges between youth, college campuses, and the possibilities of the future.

Apple tools played a central role in empowering participants to explore, express, and engage—and we’re beyond proud of what our Clubs accomplished together.

We're already looking forward to the next opportunity to bring creativity, community, and college readiness to life!
