Teachers are striving to help learners think more deeply, regulate their learning and build independence in all classrooms across the world. High quality modelling remains one of the most effective ways to make learning visible, yet effective modelling can often be fleeting and challenging for learners to process in real time. This is where Apple Intelligence can support learners with cognition…
By using Apple Intelligence, teachers now have opportunities to extend and strengthen modelling in ways that support all learners. I’ve been toying with different methods of doing this with Apple Intelligence and felt the following process may be of use…
A Four-Step Apple Intelligence Workflow for Deeper Learning
- Record Clear Modelling Using Voice Memos
Begin by recording your explanation, worked example or demonstration using Voice Memos on iPad.
Why this is effective:
- Provides a consistent, high-quality explanation for every learner
- Reduces the need to repeat complex instructions
- Supports learners who benefit from auditory repetition
- Allows pupils to revisit the model independently at any point
Voice Memos automatically generates a transcript, turning your spoken model into a written resource.
2. Share the Transcript as a Learning Scaffold
Export or share the transcript with learners using your usual workflow (Pages, Notes, Files, LMS platforms, etc.).
Benefits include:
- Learners can read, annotate, and review the explanation at their own pace
- Students who struggle to keep up with oral explanations gain equitable access
- The transcript becomes the foundation for developing deeper understanding
This step turns a one-off explanation into a reusable scaffold for independent or guided learning.
3. Strengthen Metacognition with Apple Intelligence Writing Tools
Learners import the transcript into Pages or Notes, then use built-in Apple Intelligence writing tools such as Summarise, Rewrite, and Key Points to reshape and refine the information.
Teachers can prompt learners to:
- Create a concise summary of the explanation
- Identify essential steps or ideas
- Rephrase the explanation in their own words
- Compare variations and evaluate accuracy
- Edit AI-generated summaries to improve clarity
Why this matters:
- Encourages active processing rather than passive listening
- Helps learners identify what is important
- Supports note-making and literacy skills
- Reduces cognitive load while maintaining challenge
- Benefits students who need structured support with organisation and comprehension
The goal is to use AI as a thinking partner, not a shortcut, prompting learners to reflect on, edit, and take ownership of their understanding.
4. Consolidate Understanding with Image Playground
The final step invites learners to transform their summary into a visual model using Image Playground.
Using their own refined explanation, learners can:
- Generate images that represent key steps or concepts
- Combine visuals into a sequence or diagram
- Annotate or label images to show relationships
- Create metaphorical or conceptual illustrations
- Produce visual summaries for revision or assessment
Impact:
- Deepens conceptual understanding through visualisation
- Encourages creativity and personal expression
- Provides teachers with clear evidence of learner thinking
- Supports students who benefit from visual processing
- Shifts the focus from teacher-generated models to learner-generated models
This step is especially powerful because learners design visuals based on their interpretation, a strong indicator of true understanding.
Why This Workflow Works Across Contexts
No matter the curriculum, phase, or subject, this workflow offers consistent pedagogical benefits:
Multimodal Learning Opportunities
Learners receive information through audio, text, AI-supported writing, and visuals which strengthens comprehension through multiple pathways.
Improved Learner Independence
Students gain the tools to self-manage, revisit explanations, and clarify their thinking without relying continually on teacher repetition.
Enhanced Inclusion
The workflow meets diverse learning needs, including those related to literacy, processing, language development, and executive function.
Maximised Teacher Efficiency
Recording one high-quality explanation frees teachers to support learners more strategically.
Meaningful Use of AI
Apple Intelligence is embedded purposefully within effective pedagogy rather than used as an add-on or novelty.
Where Teachers Might Use This Approach
This workflow can be applied in almost any learning context, such as:
- Breakdowns of mathematical procedures
- Scientific explanations and processes
- Grammar and writing instruction
- Historical or geographical concepts
- Art, design, and creative workflows
- Practical and technical subjects
- Multilingual classrooms where learners may need extra processing time
It scales from early primary through to adult education and works well in 1:1 iPad environments, small-group teaching, blended learning and SEND/ALN support.
Practical Tips for Getting Started
- Keep your original recording concise and structured
- Encourage learners to question and refine AI-generated summaries
- Use visual models as discussion prompts or assessment artefacts
- Embed the workflow into regular routines so it becomes familiar
- Allow learners to personalise the process as some may prefer written notes, others visuals or audio
Give it a whirl and let me know how it goes!!
