iPadOS Accessibility at BETT2026

This week at BETT2026 in London, we'll be spending some time looking at the built in accessibility features of iPadOS26.

The session will give an overview of the key accessibility features that I use in my classrooms, giving real practical examples of tools that students use to support their learning with stories of impact along the way.

We'll explore a variety of features, but with a focus on:

  • adapting Safari using the Reader and other tools to create customised resources for learners
  • using the speak and read options with the dictation feature to support independence
  • accessing colour adaptations including screen overlay filters
  • using Zoom as a teaching tool
  • adaptive touch to simplify gestures and support learners with limited fine motor skills
  • hearing accommodations and using background sounds to support autistic learners or students with ADHD

At the end of the session we will spend some time with the Shortcuts App and dive into the iPad Accessibility Shortcut to help provide you with a customised reference document to detail the accessibility features unique to you, along with links to Apple resources and videos so that you can learn more about Accessibility on iPad.
