My ‘This Is Why I Teach’ Moment: Accessibility Changed Everything!

A few days ago, I had one of those true “this is why I teach” moments.

One of my students, who often struggled with writing, used an iPad to produce a full extended response in Pages. Using speech-to-text to articulate their ideas, then they formatively assessed and refined their own work independently before they were happy enough to proudly submit it.

I was delighted and genuinely impressed, but more importantly, so were they.

At the end, they stood up and said:

”Ah, another successful day!”

Moments like that should remind us - both teachers and students - it’s not just always about pass or fail, it’s about giving people the tools and confidence to believe in themselves.
