Apple Classroom not allowing computer viewing

Question:

We use FileWave as our MDM. When we attempt to use Apple Classroom in one of our labs, we can add students successfully. However, the one feature that we cannot get to work in Apple Classroom is to view screens. It is greyed out.

I have checked restrictions in FileWave and all Classroom setting appear to be correct.

Any suggestions?

Hello, Dave.

There are three classroom types.

  1. Apple School Manager synced
  2. MDM synced
  3. Unmanaged nearby classes

If you determine it to be the latter, these classes give students more agency and they’ll receive a prompt on whether or not to let the teacher see their screens. If they choose not to allow a teacher to see their screen, it may create this greyed-out view for the teacher. You can see these settings for yourself on the student device by clicking here for iPadOS devices and here for macOS devices.
