Tech in Early Childhood

I found all of the lessons in the Learning Center to be a great benefit for students. However, as a pre-k teacher I found many of the lessons to be to advanced for my students.

I am going to incorporate the SketchesSchool app in my lessons for students to illustrate their own stories.

What apps or lessons have you found to be appropriate for Early childhood learners?

Sosa,

I teach kindergarten and have 1:1 iPads in my class. The apps I use most often are Drawing Pad, Whiteboard, Montessori Crosswords, Magnetic ABC, Number Frames, Linking Cubes, Pattern Shapes, Book Creator, and Felt Board. I have a few others but these are the main ones. We also use Keynote and Pages a little later in the year. I'm an Apple Distinguished Educator and we were tasked with a One Best Thing project this summer in our institute. I posted mine on using the iPad to facilitate early literacy here in the Teaching and Learning section. If you are interested, you can scroll down a little ways to see it.

Hi Sosa,

I ran a series of creativity in Early Years workshops for the ACS Apple Regional Training Centre, which were recorded and you can view them below. I shared a variety of different approaches to education that values children actively engaged in using creativity to express their ideas and share their understanding. It is important to have a clear understanding of purpose for what you want students to be able to achieve and learn. There are 5 videos in total, focusing on the 5 creative elements of photography, video, music, drawing, and AR.

Hello, we are playing "I Spy" using my iPad. I am teaching them how to use Pages to add pictures, record their own voices, and create fantastic videos with different photos. They love it!

Hi there! I work with pre-k students with iPad frequently. One thing that is so user friendly, is the camera. We go on “scavenger hunts” inside or outside to look for a variety of things. Last week, students used it when talking about SEL feeling words. They took pictures of themselves showing different emotions and then marked it up with drawings of things that made them feel that way!

I hope this helps!

Draw and Tell is great, easy to use app for EC. They have the option to record their voice to accompany their drawings, or can use the available stickers to move around and animate a scene.
