Autism interventions

Question:

Hey! I’ve been using the iPad as a learning tool for my clients. Oftentimes it’s used as a communication device for the non-verbal kiddos. Other times it’s for recording data on interventions when teaching the kids social skills! (Keeps track with what’s working really well) I’m looking to see how other folks utilize the iPads for social learning!

Hey Travis :) I've been an autism educator for 17 years and have used iPad extensively for social learning. How old are the kids you're working with? A few years ago, I put together a blog post on what I use in this space (http://www.autismpedagogy.com/blog/2017apps) and how we use play-based apps like those in the Toca Boca range, or explicit social skills apps, to address this domain. There are apps to create social stories, like Book Creator, that can be very useful; apps like iMovie to help film social experiences, to model social practices, that can be made the foundation of lessons on social learning. Those are just a few ideas to get us started - let me know how old the kids you're working with are and I can be more specific.
