#DrawAndRecharge Community Drawing Challenge

We all know that daily practise of a creative skill is such a great way to get better at it. But it is also a way to steal some time each day for yourself. Whether you have an hour, a half hour, or even just a couple of minutes during a break, taking a few minutes to do something creative is a great way to recharge and flex your creative muscles.

Over the years I have done a number of 100 Day Projects and community challenges to practise both photography and drawing. While I have done solitary projects, my most successful projects are those that I have done with a community!

In August as many of us, at least in North America, are gearing up for a new school year, it’s a great time to take a few minutes each day for ourselves. Whether you are in your first days of the school year with a new class or still enjoying the slower pace of a break, why not take a bit of time each day in August to do a bit of drawing?

Every day in August, I am going to do a quick drawing to illustrate a word. I am going to use the attached template, imported into Freeform, as a place to keep my drawings for the month. Freeform is great for this because I can zoom in so each day’s box is the full size of my iPad screen. But when I zoom out I can see all of my drawings for the whole month.

Please join me in the #DrawAndRecharge Community Drawing Challenge!

You could draw in Keynote, Pages, Freeform, or using an analog notebook and pencil! Use the template… or don’t. The format you choose is up to you. But what I would love to see is for folks to share their drawings here or on social media with the hashtag #DrawAndRecharge. I have included the words for every day of August in an attachment because I know that makes things less stressful for some folks. If you don’t want to know the word of the day ahead of the time, I will post the word each morning (Eastern Standard Time) in the comments and, of course, when I do my drawing for the day.

Thanks to Jason Trinh for inspiring this idea when we were at ADE Academy a few weeks ago, and to the amazing group of ADEs who brainstormed ideas for the list of words!
