Instructional Technology Specialist Interview Task

Good evening! I have an interview next week for an elementary technology integration specialist position. I am currently a teaching and learning coach for math and science (elementary). I have an interview task, which is, create a reference page for a digital tool of my choice that I would use with teachers.

Just wanting some input on what digital tool may be the best to do to over. Canva was what I was thinking. Also, what do you think they might be looking for to be included? Thank you!!

Hi April

One question I would ponder would be around what is the purpose of using technology in learning and what are the benefits? For me, the ideal context is where the technology is embedded into learning tasks and activities seamlessly where learning is improved and enhanced (rather than it being about the technology itself). What impact can technology have in supporting learning?

Also, something to think about would be what skills you would like the teachers/students to develop? Examples could be: building digital literacy skills, making the learning accessible for all (text-to-speech, screen reader, closed captioning etc), problem solving and critical thinking skills, accessing technology to make real world connections. Using technology can provide opportunities for students to develop collaborative skills and enhance their sense of agency by offering voice and choice in how they demonstrate their learning.

Building teacher confidence is key when introducing technology and taking small, manageable steps can help ease the transition, making the learning process more approachable and less overwhelming. Starting with simple tools and gradually building up to more advanced applications empowers teachers to experiment, build competence, and see the positive impact of technology on student engagement and learning outcomes.

Check out this recent post where Jennifer shares examples of how technology can be embedded into learning. It showcases how these tools can be utilised quickly and effectively.

Integrating technology thoughtfully can enhance both teaching and learning by creating a more inclusive, engaging and effective learning experience.

A suggestion would be to use something you are comfortable and confident in sharing. This response is only scratching the surface. Using Apple technology to enhance learning knows no bounds!

Best of luck!
