Apple Classroom Disappears After Adding Student

Hello everyone!

I love these forums and community and this is my first post so apologies if this is the wrong section. I am a digital learning coach for a public school system and was able to get our kindergarten teachers setup with a "teacher" iPad to support their student iPads using Apple Classroom. Since iOS 18, I have been running into an issue where when we try to add students after giving them the invite code, the classroom settings disappear from their device and the device shows as "Offline" in the teacher Classroom app. These iPads are connected to an MDM but do not use the Apple manager, nor do we use the managed Apple ID's (IT thing, not a me thing). Any ideas what could be causing this? We didn't have any issues with iPadOS 17; all iPads are on iOS 18.1.

Thank you!!

Hi Dan,

I'd definitely recommend getting in touch with your school's dedicated K12 EDU SE to log this issue further.

You can find out who your Apple SE is by calling 1-800-800-2775 and choose option 4 to get connected with your school's Apple sales team.

Best,

Dominique

Having the same issue, has anyone found a solution?

I recently ran into this issue with gen9 devices on v18.2.1, and was able to update to 18.3 and 18.4.1 but the issue persisted between updates. I ended up putting the device into DFU mode and restoring to v18.4.1 with Apple Configurator. When the device loaded back up from it's MDM enrollment configuration the device was able to pair with different Apple Classroom section and the Classroom menu persisted on the student device.

It seems whatever was up with the iPadOS install persisted between updates at the device level.
