This is brilliant. GarageBand is so much fun and kids love it. But this takes it one step further with their creativity to build music for a game reflecting mood and action. Thanks for the inspiration!

Garageband Video Game Music Project
In this project, learners take on the role of video game music composer. They plan out their own imagined video game and use Garageband to create music for different levels, sound effects, selection screens, and anything else their game needs music for.
Students use Pages to present their music and explain how it connects to their video game. To tailor this project for different learners, you can offer them different Pages templates with different requirements or themes, or even challenge them to start from a blank document and design the whole presentation themselves based on given criteria.
Here's a few examples of what the Pages templates can look like for this project:
You can also use these formats as the initial plan or storyboard with the ultimate goal of putting up a QR code display:
You can download these Pages documents to edit for your own purposes. For me this is a Middle School project, but very easy to change it up for different grades. It can also work well as a team project, with each students working on music for a different level and delegating other tasks.

Great!
What a great project, Michael! I love the cross-disciplinary approach to bringing GarageBand into the classroom. You’re tapping into so much more than music creation. I see design thinking thinking, problem solving, elements of gamification and even SEL. I also appreciate the addition of the downloadable template here. It’s a great add for others to use and/or adapt for their learning environments. And on a personal note, love the Toybox Loop for Level 1 - the forest.
Thanks for sharing, Michael! ☺️🎵🎮
Love this project idea! Your example of game design music would resonate with so many students. I also think a teacher could use this in an ELA classroom to ask students to build out the settings of a novel as the "levels" and create music in Garageband to demonstrate their understandings of the tone and mood of those settings. So many cross-disciplinary possibilities here!
