Garageband and Early Literacy
My early learner multilingual students love boppin to the beat in this interactive Keynote and Garageband activity to practice phonics and phoneme segmentation skills. Here's how it works: students stand behind a green, yellow, and red sticker dot on their desk with an iPad, pencil, and paper. Once the Keynote slide deck begins students see a CVC picture chosen from the shapes image bank. They hear the beat sequencer audio recording from Garageband to guide them in identifying, isolating and tapping out the beginning, middle, and ending sounds. As they blend the letter sounds together they hear the percussion prompting them to say the whole word. After listening to the beat and tapping and blending the sounds, students write the word on their paper. They then tap the screen to see the word appear and self assess their writing. I love seeing students of all learning stages successfully interacting and completing the activity thanks to the musical support! I have attached the Keynote file to try with students or change it up to personalize to your learners' needs.
